Owner of the Ajnala shop, spouse imprisoned at home, plundered

After apprehending the couple in Ajnala during the early hours of Friday morning, three armed individuals stole money and jewelry from the grocery shop owner’s home. They reportedly made their getaway with jewelry valued at Rs 25 lakh and cash of Rs 16 lakh.

The CCTV video of the event has been obtained by the police, but the accused have not yet been named. After conducting a preliminary investigation, they believe that the plunder was facilitated by an insider.

In Ajnala, the victim, Surinderpal Sehgal, owns a grocery shop. He said that he often visits his business early in the morning. Around five in the morning on Friday, the thieves apprehended him at gunpoint as he was leaving his home and forced him back inside.

Surinder Sehgal and his wife were reportedly threatened with death if they attempted to sound the alarm, and the accused taped their wrists and lips. We now know that the miscreants were aware that the pair was alone when it happened. They spent more than thirty minutes inside the property, according to the CCTV video.

Following their departure with money and jewelry, Surinderpal Sehgal’s spouse contacted her son-in-law and then notified the authorities.

The accused had been carrying out the house’s routine and were waiting for the victim to emerge in the morning, according to the CCTV video. The moment he emerged, they had him at gunpoint.

It is noteworthy that the event happened a short distance from the local police station. Even after the Election Commission enforced the Model Code of Conduct, robberies and lootings have persisted, even with the Punjab Police on high alert.

SHO Harpal Singh of the Ajnala police station said that the culprit will be taken into custody shortly after they finish analyzing the CCTV footage.
