Police Launch Investigation After Arrival Of Armed Suspected Maoists At Kerala Hill Resort

In this area of north Kerala, a gang of armed suspect Maoists entered a private resort. They took over the manager’s phone and used it to make a press release about problems facing estate workers.

At about 6.40 p.m. on Wednesday, the event took place at a resort in Makkimala under the control of the Thalappuzha police station, according to the police.

The six ultras reportedly insisted on getting the hotel staff member’s phone and told him to WhatsApp their statement to a select group of media after acquiring it.

A police source claims that the statement was sent to 23 journalists throughout the state by the CPI(Maoist)’s Kabani Area Committee. A PTI correspondent who got the statement on Wednesday night was among them.

A state intelligence officer said, “According to the information we received, all of them were in possession of sophisticated weapons, including AK-47s.”

The Maoists reportedly told the resort manager to transmit a copy of their press release to the designated journalists whose contact information they gave while seizing control of his cell phone.

There were no threats made by the gang, and there was no fear in the resort. After successfully reaching the journalists, they fled the area.

The remark was made by a person posing as the spokesman for the Communist Party of India (Maoist)’s Kabani Area Committee. The declaration has encouraged employees to demonstrate together in support of their rights.

According to the intelligence officer, a complaint has been filed in relation to this occurrence under the Arms Act and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

In this district of northern Kerala, there have recently been indications of possible Maoist presence in a number of hamlets bordered by forests.
