Punjab shock: two troops and an army major were detained after being viciously assaulted by dhaba workers near Ropar

An Indian Army commander and his group of sixteen troops were reportedly brutally assaulted by dhaba workers in Punjab in a disturbing incident. According to accounts, the brawl resulted in serious injuries for a major-ranking commander and numerous troops.

The troops, who were returning after a snow marathon triumph, were attacked by the owner and employees of Alpine Dhaba on Monday, March 11, on the Manali-Ropar route in Punjab. Two people were detained by the police after the event, and a FIR was filed at the Kiratpur Sahib police station.

Two suspects are taken into custody.
The two suspects who were taken into custody are Tanay from Uttar Pradesh and Rajneesh alias Himanshu from Rajpura in Punjab. The proprietor of the dhaba and other parties implicated are still at large in the meantime. Major Sachin Singh Kuntal, an extreme marathon runner, and his Ladakh Scout soldiers were returning from Palchan, close to Manali, where they had won a snow marathon, according to the First Information Report.

Around 9.15 p.m., while on their way to Chandimandir, the troops stopped for supper at the Alpine dhaba in the Ropar district, close to Bharatgarh. There, they got into a fight with the dhaba owner over the way they should be paid. The troops paid the bill electronically, but the owner insisted on cash payment in order to avoid taxes, which resulted in a violent confrontation. Then, using lathis, clubs, and iron rods, a group of thirty to thirty-five individuals assaulted the commander and his men.

The major suffered severe injuries and lost consciousness, and the accused reportedly left the scene. He was immediately brought to the Ropar Civil Hospital to get medical attention. In the meantime, a complaint has been filed under many sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), including criminal intimidation, willfully inflicting harm, rioting with lethal weapons, wrongful restraint, and illegal assembly.
