Rajasthan woman paraded by husband in undress; seven arrested, four imprisoned

According to authorities, a 21-year-old tribal woman was reportedly paraded around a hamlet in Rajasthan’s Pratapgarh district while being stripped nude, and seven persons have been arrested and four others have been detained.

The event, which was captured on video, drew harsh criticism from several prominent figures.

Amit Kumar, the superintendent of police for Pratapgarh District, said that seven persons, including the accused’s husband, had been held in connection with the crime.

At Dhariyawad in Pratapgarh, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot is anticipated to see the victim lady and her family.

In a video that went viral, the lady was disrobed and paraded in front of locals by her husband.

DGP Umesh Mishra previously said in a statement that 10 individuals have been accused in the FIR for molesting the lady and violating other pertinent laws. It claimed that eight of them, including the primary accuser, had been arrested.

He said that after being forced onto a motorbike and paraded while nude, the woman filed a complaint against her husband Kanha Gameti as well as Suraj, Beniya, Netiya, Nathu, and Mahendra.

Apart from the witnesses to the incident Punia, Khetia, and Motilal, the police statement previously said that “the main accused Kanha, Netiya, Beniya, and Pintu and a minor have been detained.”

According to the police, Kanha, Netiya, and Benia were hurt while attempting to escape and are now receiving treatment at the Pratapgarh district hospital.

According to the results of the first inquiry, the lady was dating another guy, according to Dhariyawad SHO Peshawar Khan.

According to the police, the woman’s in-laws abducted her and transported her to their hamlet, where the event occurred on Thursday. Because she was residing with another guy, her in-laws were miffed.

Under the direction of the IG, Banswara Range, and SP Pratapgarh, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been created, according to DGP Mishra. The SIT will look into every aspect of the event and present a report to the state government and police headquarters.

ADG (Crime) Dinesh MN was despatched to Pratapgarh on Friday night at the request of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, according to DGP Mishra.

After learning of the event, Gehlot said on X, “Such incidents have no place in a civilized society.” He said that the suspect would be captured soon and put through a speedy legal process.

Vasundhara Raje, a former chief minister, said that while a video of a pregnant lady being undressed in public was becoming viral on social media, the government was unaware of it. She also pleaded with people to refrain from sharing the footage, stating Rajasthan had been shamed by the occurrence.

The Pratapgarh District Superintendent of Police was ordered by the Rajasthan State Human Rights Commission to help the victim immediately with financial needs and conduct a comprehensive investigation.

“The Superintendent of Police has been directed to send the victim’s case to the District Legal Aid Committee, Pratapgarh for compensation under the Compensation Policy 2011, so that the victim can receive immediate financial assistance and the case is resolved, on behalf of the chairman of the Commission, Justice Gopal Krishna Vyas.

The rights organization instructed top officers to hand over all relevant documents and the investigation report to the Commission by September 14 after completing a comprehensive inquiry into the situation.
