SC requests ED’s answer about Hemant Soren’s bail request

NEW DELHI: Hemant Soren, the former chief minister of Jharkhand and chairman of the JMM, filed an interim bail application in a money laundering case on Monday, and the Supreme Court directed the Enforcement Directorate to submit a response.

The Supreme Court also said that the Jharkhand High Court may issue its ruling on Soren’s appeal contesting his arrest, which it had previously reserved, and it listed the case for the second week of May.

After a protracted game of hide-and-seek, the ED arrested Soren in January in relation to the land fraud investigation.

The inquiry focuses on large sums of money obtained via the falsification of official records, including “fake sellers” and buyers who used forged or counterfeit paperwork to purchase enormous tracts of property for crores.
