Shock Over Former Aginveer Not Receiving Guard Of Honor in Army Voiced by Punjab Opposition

The opposition in Punjab on Saturday expressed horror at the young guy’s death, which occurred as the result of a “self-inflicted gunshot injury” along the Line of Control in the Rajouri area of Jammu and Kashmir. The young man was an Agniveer.

Agniveer Amritpal Singh was recently discovered dead on October 11 at a forward post after suffering a gunshot wound while serving with a battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Rifles in the Poonch region. On Friday, he was cremated at his hometown village in the Mansa region of Punjab.

“Unfortunately, Agniveer Amritpal Singh passed away from a self-inflicted gunshot wound while doing sentry duty in Rajouri Sector. The Army’s White Knight Corps in Jammu posted on X that a court of inquiry to establish further information was underway.

According to the report, the deceased’s lifeless remains were brought to his hometown in a civil ambulance that the Agniveer unit had rented, along with a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and four additional ranks. According to the Army’s current protocol, no guard of honour or military burial was held for Singh since his cause of death was a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a leader of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and a former federal minister, expressed her amazement after learning that Singh was cremated without an army guard of honor. She asked Rajnath Singh, the defense minister, to get involved and provide the required instructions so that all troops who died in battle would get military honors.

I was shocked to discover that Agniveer Amritpal Singh, who was killed while doing his job in Poonch, J-K, was cremated without an Army guard of honour and that his family even transported his remains to his hometown of Mansa in a private ambulance. Badal made a post on X

“It has been discovered that Amritpal was a #Agniveer, which is why this occurred. We must treat every one of our troops with respect. To ensure that all troops who have died in battle get military honors, ask Rajnath Singh, the defense minister.

Amrinder Singh Raja Warring, the head of the Punjab Congress, stated, “This is a sad day for our country as this (soldier) was sent back home in a private ambulance and not given any guard of honor by the @adgpi.”
Does being an Agniveer imply that their lives are less important? he questioned.

“The grieving family had to ask the local Punjab Police to provide a guard of honor for our baby kid. Is this the rationale behind @BJP4India’s policy? Are we going to treat our Agniveers differently from the rest of our military in this way? Are there any explanations from the central government for this cruel treatment of our young martyr? Shameful!” said Warring on X.

SAD leader Sukhbir Singh Badal criticized the Bhagwant Mann administration, claiming he was startled by the chief minister’s failure to designate any official dignitary to bid the young victim a dignified goodbye.

Nothing prevents the state government from paying tribute to the martyr and supporting his family in the most generous manner at this difficult time, thus the CM must not use this as an excuse. Badal wrote on X, “S. Parkash Singh Ji Badal would have done this right away.

Bikram Singh Majithia, the head of the SAD, called for the Agniveer program to be abandoned and the regularization of all troops who had been hired under it up to that point.
