The Bengal police chief, BMC commissioner, and home secretaries of six states are ordered to resign by the EC

In the lead-up to the impending Lok Sabha elections, the Election Commission of India (ECI) has issued directions for the dismissal of a number of important officials across numerous states.

In six states—Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand—the directives include the dismissal of home secretary.

Moreover, reports claim that the secretaries of the general administrative departments of Mizoram and Himachal Pradesh, who were in charge of the chief minister’s offices in both states, have been fired.

Furthermore, according to people with knowledge of the situation, the ECI has mandated the dismissal of West Bengal’s Director General of Police (DGP).

According to reports, the election watchdog has also moved to dismiss Iqbal Singh Chahal, the commissioner for Brihanmumbai Municipality, as well as a number of other commissioners and deputy commissioners.

The Election Commission is working to safeguard the integrity of the electoral process across the states by ensuring fair and transparent elections, and these removals are a part of that effort.
