The CBI assumes control of the Sidharthan death case investigation

J S Sidharthan, a second-year student of the College of Veterinary and Animal Sciences in Pookode, was discovered hanging in the dormitory after he was reportedly tortured by SFI members. The CBI has taken over the investigation into his death.

Following an order from the Kerala High Court requiring the Central agency to do so, the CBI said on Friday that it has taken over the matter.

The Centre received notices from the state government on March 9 and March 16, respectively, indicating the state’s intention to transfer the matter to the top agency. The home department was allegedly holding up the transfer of the case files to the CBI, according to Sidharthan’s relatives. After then, the government sent a police officer with the rank of DySP to Delhi with the remaining paperwork.

The state government sources had insisted that the Central agency was the one holding up the investigation, not them.

The CBI team met with the Kalpetta DySP, who had first investigated the case, in Kannur on Friday to gather information.
