The center suggests reserving seats in the J&K Assembly for Kashmiri Pandits and PoK refugees

The Union Home Minister introduced two proposals concerning Kashmir in the Lok Sabha today. One of the bills aims to designate two members of the Kashmiri Migrant community, one of whom is a woman, and set aside one seat in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly for those who have been displaced from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. This occurs in response to the political parties headquartered in Kashmir calling for early elections to be held in the Union Territory.

“The J&K bill aims to provide individuals who were forced to flee Kashmir because of terrorism with representation in the parliament…Two measures concerning Jammu and Kashmir aim to propose two members of the Kashmiri Migrant community, one of whom is a woman, for assembly. People who have been displaced from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir would have one seat reserved in the Jammu and Kashmir legislature, Shah said in the Lok Sabha.

The two legislation on Jammu and Kashmir, according to the Union Home Minister, would provide justice to individuals who have been denied their rights for the last 70 years. Attacking opposition parties, Shah said that Kashmiri Pandits wouldn’t have needed to flee the valley if terrorism had been addressed early on without taking vote-bank politics into account.

Shah attacked the Congress, saying that although PM Narendra Modi has been working nonstop for the welfare of the backward sections, the grand old party has done the most damage to other backward communities.
