The Central Government Does Not Want To Get Involved With The Soaring Airfares To Kerala

Because dynamic pricing is in effect and travelers are required to book their flights in advance, the Central Government has said that they would not interfere in the controversy surrounding the excessive airfares that will be charged for travel to Kerala during the approaching Onam season.

In a statement that was issued on Saturday, the Office of Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that the Union Government had Refused to Intervene in the Matter.

Vijayan had on July 5 asked for the involvement of Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia in the situation, stating that the excessive pricing will have an influence on a large number of Keralites living in India and West Asia who are excitedly preparing to travel home for Onam celebrations.

According to the statement in the release, Scindia sent a letter to the CM in which he advised him that the right to determine the airfares lies with the aviation businesses.

During the festival season, there is just a 9.77 percent rise in prices. “Since the only option available is the dynamic pricing system, the only choice available is to book tickets in advance,” the statement from the release stated, referencing the letter from the Minister of the Union.

Vijayan had said that due to the high cost of flying to the southern state for travel between the 15th of August and the 15th of September, a considerable number of Keralites living outside of the state had been forced to either cancel or postpone their vacation plans.

Additionally, the government of Kerala asked for permission to allow the operation of chartered planes with the purpose of transporting Non-Resident Keralites from the United Arab Emirates to India especially for the Onam celebrations.

Concerning this matter, the minister of the Union said that authorization for chartered planes is granted only after carefully evaluating each request.
