The Coast Guard stops a boat that is smuggling fuel

An Indian fishing boat that was allegedly engaged in smuggling fuel and transporting cash without authorization was arrested by the Indian Coast Guard (ICG).

The vessel was captured 150 kilometers to the northwest of Mumbai.

Following a tip from Customs, the ICG surveyed a 200 square mile region, including offshore oil fields off the coast of Maharashtra.

On April 15, the suspicious boat was found throughout the night. The boat, with five crew members, left the Gujarati port of Mandwa on April 14 in order to meet suspected Indian offshore supply vessels (OSV) and smuggle fuel, according to an initial inquiry.

The yacht was discovered to be using modified holds that could accommodate up to 20,000 liters of gasoline. A comparison of the suspect boat’s data with accessible information revealed many registration inconsistencies. The probe also uncovered the fact that certain Indian OSV operating from offshore territories were supposed to get a carrying fee of Rs 11.46 lakh in exchange for the contraband fuel.
