There will only be six stations on the high-speed metro line that runs between IGI Airport and Noida International Airport

The proposed Noida International Airport near Jewar would be connected to Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport by a high-speed metro line, according to the Uttar Pradesh government. The Airport Express route high-speed metro project may only have six stops, according to Noida International Airport Limited (NIAL) authorities, in order to guarantee a rapid journey along the 72km long route.

On June 14, a high-level conference will be held under the direction of Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary DS Mishra to finalize the detailed project report (DPR). According to NIAL officials, the conference to finalize the stations for this massive metro corridor project would involve DMRC, the Yamuna Motorway Industrial Development Authority (Yeida), NIAL, the Ministry of Civil Aviation, and the Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, among others. The financing pattern will also be covered during the conference.

The corridor would extend from the New Delhi Metro interchange, where the Airport Express Line starts, to the Noida airport in Jewar. Previously, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) had planned 12 stations on the corridor. According to a Hindustan Times story, an anonymous Uttar Pradesh government official said, “The Uttar Pradesh government wants only six metro stations on this project so that it takes only half an hour to get from Jewar to New Delhi station.”

According to Arun Vir Singh, CEO of NIAL and Yeida, DMRC had previously suggested 12 stations along the route that would connect Jewar Airport with the New Delhi Metro Station. The pace of the corridor will, however, be slowed down by adding additional stops. Therefore, Singh said, NIAL suggested six metro stations along the corridor to enable passengers to move between the two airports quickly.

According to the terms of the agreement signed by the Jewar airport concessionaire Company, the Zurich International AG of Switzerland, Yamuna International Airport Private Limited, and Noida International Airport Limited, the UP government and Yeida will offer multimodal connectivity from Jewar to IGI airport. This is due to Noida Airport’s planned September 29, 2024, opening date.

The planned project, which would link Noida’s Jewar Airport with Delhi’s IGI Airport, is anticipated to cost over Rs 13,000 crore to complete.
