SKM protests outside the home of the BJP district president

Farmers from the SKM district unit staged a demonstration today and chanted anti-Central Government slogans in front of Didar Singh Bhatti’s BJP district president’s home.

Speaking to the farmers, Bhupinder Singh Jallah, the district president of BKU (Rajewal), said that the union is holding dharnas in front of BJP politicians’ homes across Punjab from February 20 to 22 in response to the Central Government’s anti-farmer policies, following the request of the United Farmers Front. He said that the farmers’ requests had been persistently disregarded by the administration. According to him, the farmers want the Central Government to implement the concessions it made more than two years ago.

According to Jallah, farmers want to go to Delhi for a nonviolent demonstration, but the Haryana government has barricaded the area and begun using tear gas and rubber bullets on the demonstrators.

Jallah said, “We are not going to put up with this.”

The Indian Farmers Association supports demonstrations.

The Indian Farmers Association discussed the “atrocities” the Haryana government is perpetrating against peacefully demonstrating farmers during a meeting today, and they declared their solidarity with the farmers who are revolting.

Speaking to the media, the association’s national president declared that the organization would join the agitation and support the cause of the farmers who are protesting the Central Government’s “unjust rule.” It further stated that its members would do everything within their power to bring all of the farmers at the borders of Shambhu and Khanauri together in opposition to this government.

He continued by saying that the Prime Minister had forgotten the assurances he gave the farmers during the last uprising more than two years before and that the farmers would step up their protests if their requests were not fulfilled by the federal and state governments. In order to allow the farmers to go to Delhi in peace, he also requested that the Haryana government open the borders.
