Trust in Ram idol’s “Surya Abhishek” on Ram Navami as trials are successful

This Ram Navami, the revolutionary feature of “Surya Abhishek,” or the sun’s rays lighting Ram Lalla’s statue at the Ayodhya shrine, will come to pass, fusing spirituality with cutting-edge science.

According to officials of the Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, “Surya Abhishek” of the idol of Ram Lalla would take place on Ram Navami (April 17) after the optomechanical system established for the purpose underwent successful testing, Indian Express said.

Trials will be carried out every day to make sure that on April 17, at 12 p.m., sunlight reaches the center of the idol’s forehead. “Ram Lalla’s face will be lit by the sun for four minutes straight. This study is being done by teams of scientists from the Central Building Research institution (CBRI), Roorkee, and another institution, an official from the trust informed IE.

A lens and two mirrors have been erected on the temple’s ground level. They will get sunlight via a mirror on the third level. The official said, “The rays reflected by these will form tilak on the forehead.”

The sanctum sanctorum, also known as the “garbha griha,” of the temple, is closed off from the sun in order to protect the idol. Through mirrors and lenses, scientists have used optomechanical apparatus to project sunrays onto the idol’s forehead.

Every year on the day of Ram Navami, the optomechanical system will be used to perform the annual “surya tilak” of the idol, with small adjustments made to the mirrors and lenses to account for direction changes.

Furthermore, plans are on to broadcast the event live on Doordarshan, and about a hundred locations across Ayodhya will have giant LED displays installed.
