Vishnu Deo Sai: Who is He?
Vishnu Deo Sai, a well-known member of the BJP, served as both a federal minister in the PM Modi-led central government and the party’s previous state president.

Sai is a member of the powerful Sahu (Teli) community, which is well-represented in the divisions of Durg, Raipur, and Bilaspur. From 2020 to 2022, he presided over the party as State President for Chhattisgarh. During the first PM Modi administration, Sai served as the Union Minister of State for Steel and Mines.

Vishnu Deo Sai, a well-known figure among tribal voters, began his political career at the local level. In 1989, Sai was chosen as a “panch” in the Bagia village panchayat. A year later, he was elected without opposition and assumed the role of Sarpanch, or leader of the community.

Sai’s first attempt to enter state politics did not succeed as he was defeated in the assembly elections for the Pathalgaon constituency in 1998. But a year later, from 1999 until 2014, the tribal leader won the Raigarh seat in four straight Lok Sabha elections.

Sai was not fielded by the BJP in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Sai, who is 59 years old, was appointed as the state of Chhattisgarh’s fourth chief minister in 2020.
