Visitors celebrating Independence Day in Himachal Pradesh are urged by the Chief Minister not to go near waterways

Because the Met Office forecasts heavy rain with a high possibility of flash floods and the blocking of highways and link roads, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, issued a warning on Sunday to tourists who will be traveling to hill destinations for the Independence Day weekend to avoid going near rivers and other bodies of water. The warning was issued in response to the Met Office’s forecast.

Heavy rainfall has been seen in a number of regions of Himachal Pradesh during the course of the previous two days. Sukhu issued the following warning to his followers on Twitter: “I strongly advise both local residents and tourists who are visiting Himachal Pradesh for the Independence Day extended weekend to refrain from venturing near rivers and water bodies.”

An official of the Meteorological Office in this city told IANS that it is highly probable that the districts of Chamba, Bilaspur, Solan, Shimla, Sirmaur, Una, Hamirpur, Mandi, and Kullu would continue to see moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms for the foreseeable future.

Between June 24 and August 12, 255 individuals throughout the state of Himachal were killed in instances due to the rain, according to information provided by the state administration.

According to reports from the state police, the Chandigarh-Shimla national highway in the district of Solan is now operating with just one lane of traffic owing to the presence of slides and debris in the other lane.

According to HP Traffic, Tourist and Railways Police, “Please avoid traveling unless it is absolutely necessary in the current weather conditions.”

The Pandoh Dam reservoir located in the Mandi district has reached its maximum capacity, and the dam gates have been opened as a result. It instructed people to keep their distance from the Beas riverbanks.

One of the districts that has been hit the worst is Mandi. All of the district’s educational facilities will remain closed until August 14, as ordered by the administration. In the same way, the urban sections of Shimla have had all of its institutions shut down till further order.

According to a government official who spoke with IANS, the water level in all of the state’s rivers, including the Satluj, the Beas, and the Yamuna, which flow into the neighboring states of Punjab and Haryana, has unnaturally risen.
