Election bonds: Following directions from the Supreme Court (SC), the State Bank of India (SBI) provided all of the electoral bond data, which the Election Commission of India (ECI) released on Thursday, March 21. Alpha-numeric numbers in the new data may be used to identify bond buyers with the political parties who cashed the bonds. Bond numbers are also included in the data so that contributors and the political party they belong to may be linked.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which received contributions totaling more than Rs 6,000 crore in the last four years of the programme, was the largest recipient of electoral bonds. Among the people and corporations who contributed were Megha Engineering, Future Gaming, and Qwik Supply, which is affiliated with Reliance.

The Election Commission disclosed data on Thursday, March 21, indicating that Megha Engineering, a Hyderabad-based company that secured many contracts for infrastructure projects, gave Rs 584 crore, Rs 395 crore, and Rs 100 crore to the BJP, Future Gaming, and Qwik Supply.

In addition, the BJP received contributions of Rs 226 crore from Vedanata, Rs 81 crore from Haldia Energy, and Rs 346 crore from Keventers Food Park, MKJ Enterprises, and Madanlal Ltd.—three companies that share the same address in Kolkata.

With contributions of Rs 125 crore, Vedanta was another significant supporter of the Congress. Yashoda Super Speciality Hospitals, MKJ Enterprises, and Western UP Power and Transmission also contributed money to the opposing party.

Additionally, Welspun and Western UP Power and Transmission Company donated Rs 42 crore and Rs 80 crore to the BJP, respectively.

Industry magnate Lakshmi Mittal gave the BJP an individual donation of Rs 35 crore, while a number of other people gave the governing party contributions ranging from Rs 10 to Rs 25 crore. Donations to the Congress, BJP, TMC, and Sikkim Krantikari Morcha were made by Rungta Sons Private Limited.
