Women’s bodies launch anti-drug initiatives

The All India Democratic Women’s Committee tried to counteract the growing threat of juvenile drug misuse by launching an extensive public awareness campaign.

Representatives from a number of organizations attended the meeting that was held today in the Sirmaur district headquarters in Nahan, where the decision was reached.

Following the meeting, former state president of the Democratic Women’s Committee Santosh Kapoor gave a brief overview of the committee’s plan to the media.

In her discussion of the link between drug addiction and health, Kapoor emphasized the negative effects that substance abuse had on both the individual and society as a whole.

The Democratic Women’s Committee decided to start a strong public awareness campaign against drug usage on World Health Day, according to Kapoor.

“We want to involve the community and get support for our cause,” she said. The campaign was started in an attempt to mobilize support for preventative measures and increase public awareness of the dangers of drug addiction.

According to Kapoor, the group planned to raise public support via grassroots outreach initiatives including a petition drive.

The committee also demanded that the government maintain strong oversight over drug rehabilitation facilities.

Drug traffickers and smugglers, according to Kapoor, are infiltrating drug rehabilitation centers, endangering the lives of those who are most in need of recovery.

She expressed alarm over accusations of drug usage in these facilities and the purported labor exploitation of patients, saying that “the government must act immediately to ensure the integrity of these centers.”

The women’s committee said that political parties were encouraging drug culture in order to take advantage of young people’s vulnerabilities during the election. In addition to denouncing the conduct, Kapoor said that the committee will boycott any political party that was proven to be involved in similar behavior.
