Australia PM’s XI side to play Pakistan has been revealed, with Nathan McSweeney as captain

The men’s team for Australia’s Prime Minister’s XI game against Pakistan in Canberra was announced on Thursday by the National Selection Panel (NSP) and Prime Minister Anthony Albanese.

Six players with test caps—Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Todd Murphy, Jimmy Peirson, and Matthew Renshaw—who were all part of Australia’s Test team during the last Ashes series in England—will be led by Nathan McSweeney.

The current top Marsh Sheffield Shield run scorers are Cameron Bancroft (505 runs), Beau Webster (487 runs), and McSweeney (456 runs). Last season, Mark Steketee and Michael Neser combined for 78 wickets.

The 50th PM’s XI match not only acts as a crucial trial for the subcontinental visitors before their three-match series that kicks off in Perth on December 14, but it also functions as the last tryout for a number of Australian Test players.

After working with Australia’s male youth route groups and Australia A, Thilan Samaraweera was appointed Head Coach of the team.

“Australian cricket has a long history with the Prime Minister’s XI, and I’m happy to confirm the team to play Pakistan next month.” Tony Dodemaide, George Bailey, and I have put together a seasoned team of players who will soon be chosen for the Test team. I’d want to extend my congratulations to Nathan McSweeney on earning the title of captain. The prime minister of Australia, Albanese, said, “I am confident he will skillfully lead the side within the customs and spirit of this great fixture.”

“Pat Cummins and his world-champion squad deserve my congratulations on their World Cup triumph. The country was enthralled with their path to the final and their incredible display to defeat India on Sunday night. Naturally, the exploits of Captain Pat and his crew have continued the Australian men’s and women’s teams’ very successful year. The Aussies never seem to stop winning, he said.

Local ACT Premier cricketers, who will get the chance to practice alongside and absorb knowledge from the top domestic talent in Australia, will provide assistance to the playing group during the match.

The Big Bash League 13 opening weekend will be missed by players chosen for the PM’s XI, since the T20 tournament begins the day after the match at Manuka Oval on December 7.

Prime Minister’s XI: Todd Murphy, Michael Neser, Jimmy Peirson, Matthew Renshaw, Mark Steketee, Beau Webster, Nathan McSweeney (captain), Cameron Bancroft, Cameron Green, Marcus Harris, Nathan McAndrew
