Babar Azam surpasses Virat Kohli’s 2014 England Horror as he reaches a new low on the Australia Tour

Babar Azam’s lackluster performance during Pakistan’s Australian tour left the audience feeling let down as the new year got underway. In three Test matches, he amassed only 126 runs and not a single fifty. Babar’s current haul is extremely shocking considering his size; it is his third-lowest aggregate ever in a three-match Test series.

In contrast, Virat Kohli’s horrific performance during India’s 2014 tour of England was even worse with 126 runs. During the five-game series, Kohli averaged a below-average 10.5 and scored a total of 135 runs.

2014’s miserable stint in England for Virat Kohli is among the low moments of the former captain’s career. In 2017, he faced Australia and had a campaign that was statistically poorer than Babar Azam’s last series. Kohli could only muster 46 runs in all across the five innings. But Virat Kohli had been on a massive run in 2023, blasting a record-breaking eight hundred. With a total of 765 runs, he even beat the record for most runs scored in an ODI World Cup.

That cannot be true about Babar Azam, however. Pakistan’s 2023 ODI World Cup campaign was forgettable as they were unable to advance beyond the group round. Babar resigned from his position as Pakistan’s captain for all three forms after the competition. In the Tests, Shan Masood took over as captain, while in the Twenty20 Internationals, Shaheen Afridi took Babar’s position.

Babar Azam scored only 21 and 14 runs in the first Test match of the series in Perth. The Australian team of Mitchell Marsh and David Warner outperformed him. Babar’s three-match Test series total of 126 runs was surpassed by Warner’s 164 runs in only the first innings of play.

Pakistan lost the first Test by an astounding 360 runs as a result of this. Babar’s nightmares continued in the second Test at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, when he scored 41 runs in two innings and only one run. Because of his 10-wicket performance in the Test, which enabled the home team to win for the second time in a row, Pat Cummins was named the Player of the Match. In the two innings of the series’ last Test, Babar scored 49 runs in all. Due of his awful effort, Australia defeated Pakistan 3-0 at home.
