Brendon McCullum provides a major update on Jack Leach’s knee injury, calling him “still pretty inflamed.”

An update on Jack Leach’s injury has been given by England head coach Brendon McCullum. It seems like the left-arm spinner may miss further games in the current Test series. Leach was hurt during fielding in the first Test match between India and England in Hyderabad. The injury was to his left knee. Playing through the injury throughout the match, he subsequently made it worse by bowling with a swollen joint and taking Shreyas Iyer’s wicket in the second innings.

Leach led the spin assault when he was selected for the England team, but his injury meant that the team had to alter their strategy, and they launched an untested spin attack in the second Test. Leach was replaced in the Vizag Test by Shoaib Bashir. With 14 wickets taken thus far in the series, Tom Hartley, who made his Test debut in Hyderabad, is the top England wicket-taker.

McCullum declined to provide an estimated comeback date, implying that the injury doesn’t seem to be good.

McCullum told Belfast Telegraph, “I don’t really know, but he (Jack Leach) has been a crook, so it’s still pretty inflamed.”

“It was amazing he made it through what he did in the first Test match, but his knee is pretty bad,” he said.

McCullum praised all the newcomers for their efforts and grit, expressing his delight at seeing his spinners perform better than they had anticipated.

“The benefits are many. Despite being inexperienced, our spin bowling team has shown they have what it takes. According to Sky Sports, McCullum said, “The one thing I guess you don’t know about in the heat of battle is the character the guys possess.”

“The young spinners’ improvement has been outstanding. not just their aptitude but also their ardor for pursuing the great moments. With such little experience under their belt, I am utterly thrilled with how they have done,” he said.

The two heavyweight teams’ third Test match is scheduled to take place at Rajkot’s Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on February 15.
