IPL 2024: Faf Du Plessis Recognises That RCB’s Bowling Attack Is Insufficient, Saying “It Comes Down To The Batting”

The captain of Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Faf du Plessis, acknowledges that his team lacks punch in the bowling department and that moving ahead in the IPL, the batsmen would need to make up for that shortcoming. On Thursday, RCB lost for the fifth time in their last six games here.

From a batting standpoint, I believe we need to go for that 200. In our bowling, we don’t have as many weapons. Thus, the batting is what matters most.

“In terms of bowling, we haven’t had much penetration. In the powerplay, we need to take them two or three down. After losing by seven wickets against MI, Du Plessis said, “It always feels like we are on the back foot after the first four overs.”

Due in large part to the dew in the second innings, Du Plessis believes that RCB was only a few runs shy of victory.

“A very difficult pill to take. It would be nice to somehow win a toss since it was so damp outside. Kudos to MI for coming out and causing a lot of errors in our bowlers. whomever entered and discovered the bat’s centre.

“We discussed it (dew). We were aware that the dew would be crucial. 215-220 was what we needed. 190 was insufficient. In some places, it is a major deal. When the dew got in, it was very difficult. We kept switching the ball around. It’s the only sport where circumstances may change and have an impact,” he said.

When asked about the incredible final spell that Jasprit Bumrah (5/21) produced, in which he claimed four wickets, Du Plessis stated, “He has been the difference in the two innings.” We exerted pressure on them, but one man—who you can see holding the ball in his hand—resisted.

“The variety hurts everyone, even if you want to put him under strain. He has a slower ball that bounces pretty well. The finest bowler in T20 cricket was someone like Lasith Malinga, but Bumrah has taken over.

“You know you can bring him on and take the wickets but also be defensive.”
