IPL2024: Gujarat Titans choose a substitute player after Robin Minz is declared out

After wicketkeeper Robin Minz was ruled out of the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024, Gujarat Titans (GT) suffered a severe setback. Minz was signed by the Titans in December 2023 for an incredible INR 3.60 crore.

Before obtaining his services, the Titans had to fight hard in the bidding battle against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), Mumbai Indians (MI), and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH).

Minz made history by becoming the first Adivasi cricket player to play in the IPL. But he never fully recovered from the injuries he sustained in a bike accident earlier this month. When Minz lost control and collided with another motorcycle, he was riding a Kawasaki superbike.

Meanwhile, the Titans have selected BR Sharath, 27, to take his position. Meanwhile, the Titans have selected BR Sharath, 27, to take his position. In addition to Sharath, GT’s specialty wicketkeepers are Matthew Wade and Wriddhiman Saha.

BR Sharath, is who?
Since making his debut in 2018, Sharath has accumulated a good deal of experience in domestic cricket while playing for Karnataka. The wicketkeeper-batter has amassed 328 runs at an average of 15.61 and a strike-rate of 118.84 in 28 first-class cricket matches, with a career-high score of 50.

Sharath has scored 616 and 732 runs, respectively, with one century and seven half-centuries in 20 first-class and 43 List A matches. Sharath has made nine stumpings and grabbed 19 catches in his role as wicketkeeper.

He hasn’t participated in any cricket matches this year; his last competition was the Vijay Hazare Trophy in November and December of 2023.

The Titans, captained by Shubman Gill, will open the season in Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium on March 24 against Hardik Pandya’s MI.

After Pandya, who captained GT well in 2022 and 2023, went to his former team in Mumbai, GT has a difficult road ahead.
