Mehidy Hasan and Tanzid Hasan shine as Bangladesh defeats Sri Lanka by 7 wickets in the ODI World Cup warm-up

In their first exhibition game of the ICC ODI World Cup, Bangladesh humiliated Sri Lanka by seven wickets to get off to a winning start.

At the Barsapara Cricket Stadium, Bangladesh romped home in 42 overs while chasing 264 thanks to half-centuries from top-order batsmen Tanzid Hasan (84), Litton Das (61), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (67 not out).

Hasan scored a solid 84 off 88 balls with 10 fours and two sixes, while Das scored 61 off 56 balls with 10 fours. For the first wicket, the two hitters accumulated 131 runs.

Mushfiqur Rahim still had a perfect 35.

When Sri Lanka chose to bat earlier in the day, they were dismissed for 263 in 49.1 overs, with fifty-plus scores from Pathum Nissanka and Dhananjaya de Silva.

Kusal Perera (34) and opening batsman Nissanka scored 104 runs for the first wicket, but despite their good start, Sri Lanka’s middle order was unable to capitalize.

After being forced to withdraw himself due to a shoulder injury, Kusal Perera was forced to leave the field as well.

De Silva needed 79 deliveries to hit 55 with two fours and a six, while Nissanka scored 68 off 64 balls with eight fours and a six.

As they prepare to play England, the reigning champions, in their second exhibition game, Bangladesh will want to build on their recent success. On October 2, 2023, the match will take place in Guwahati.

Shakib-al-Hasan, who sustained an injury during practice and would be out for both the last warm-up game and the opener against Afghanistan, was also unable to play for Bangladesh.

On the other side, Sri Lanka will be dissatisfied with their bowling and their failure to take wickets when it mattered most. But it’s crucial to remember that players like Wanindu Hasaranga and Dushmanatha Chameera, who are both out of the World Cup, couldn’t be used.

Maheesh Theekshana, the spinner who had a hamstring injury and missed the Asia Cup final against India, will hopefully be back for the Sri Lankan team.
