New Chairman of the Board’s Management Committee is Zaka Ashraf

Zaka Ashraf was one of the front-runners for the position of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chairman, but when the board of governors was challenged in many courts, he was nominated as the head of the PCB’s management committee.

The PCB head is chosen by the board of governors, however the election of the PCB chief has to be delayed since the nomination of the board of governors has been contested.

A new 10-person group, chaired by Ashraf, has been selected by the Pakistani government to serve as the PCB Management Committee for a period of four months.

On Thursday in Lahore, the new management committee will have its first meeting.

The government replaced Mahmood Iqbal Khakwani, a Supreme Court advocate, who had been serving as the PCB Election Commissioner with Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana, who had been removed of his responsibilities.

As the Pakistan cricket team continues to get ready for the forthcoming ODI World Cup in India in 2023, the PCB’s chaotic behavior persists. Fans are keen for the two teams to begin playing more games after the Pakistani team’s 2012 tour to India.

After the Baluchistan High Court granted the plea of Gul Mohammad Kakar, a former member of the PCB Management Committee, the election of the PCB’s new chairman was postponed on June 26. On July 17, the hearing is scheduled.

A 10-member board of governors was constituted by the previous chairman Najam Sethi before he withdrew from the race. This board included two direct nominations from PCB patron and Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.

Kakar filed a legal complaint when the board of governors’ members were altered by the interim chairman Ahmed Shehzad Farooq Rana.

Reps from smaller places like Dera Murad Jamali, Hyderabad, Larkana, and Bahawalpur have taken the place of those from larger towns like Lahore, Karachi, Rawalpindi, and Peshawar.

The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is one among the five locations where Babar Azam’s team will play at the World Cup that the Pakistani government will send a mission to assess for security.

Only then would PCB send over the Men in Green to India once the delegation gives the go-ahead for the venues in their report, which will be authorized by the Pakistani government.
