Regarding Dhoni’s move to Gaikwad as captain, Ash said, “Dhoni must have told Ruturaj last year”

On Friday, seasoned all-rounder Ravichandran Ashwin said that it was just a matter of time until MS Dhoni gave over the leadership to a different player this season. Gaikwad was named captain of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) one day before the 2024 Indian Premier League’s commencement.

In 2022, CSK also made an effort at a leadership change, but it was unsuccessful when Ravindra Jadeja returned Dhoni’s captaincy after eight games.
According to Ashwin, the Ruturaj decision was not unexpected. This choice had to be made eventually and was unavoidable. In the meantime, Gaikwad said that Dhoni had made a suggestion last season to “be ready for something big” when assigning him the leadership.
