After circumcising a 2.5-year-old child, a private hospital’s licence was suspended in Uttar Pradesh

An official said on Monday that a private hospital’s licence had been revoked after claims that it had circumcised a toddler who had been taken there for tongue surgery.

The administration of M Khan Hospital was deemed to be first accountable for the incident, according to health department authorities, and Chief Medical Officer Balbir Singh issued orders Sunday night suspending the licencing.

As a result, they said, the hospital cannot accept and care for new patients.

If any inconsistency is discovered in its documentation, the investigation into the case will continue, and further action will be taken, Singh added.

The child’s family claimed throughout the investigation that the circumcision was carried out as part of a plot since their signature was obtained on a paper that was written in English but that they did not comprehend.

The CMO promised to provide the government a thorough report on the situation.

Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak, who also oversees health policy, said in a tweet sent out on Saturday that he has dispatched a team from the health department to the hospital to look into the situation.

“If the complaint is found to be true, orders have been given to the CMO, Bareilly, to file a FIR against the responsible physician and hospital administration, to revoke the hospital’s registration immediately, and to make the full report of the proceedings available within 24 hours,” Pathak had stated.

If the probe reveals sufficient justification, he said, the facility will be shut.

On Sunday, Bareilly District Magistrate Shivakant Dwivedi said that action against the hospital administration would not be done until the three-member investigation team’s report was received.

The team was established on Friday, the day of the alleged event.

The family had visited the hospital for treatment of the child’s stutter, when they were advised to undergo tongue surgery, according to the Chief Medical Officer.

The kid’s relatives said that instead of conducting a tongue operation, the surgeons circumcised the youngster.

Members of Hindu right outfits responded strongly to the situation by organising demonstrations and shouting down the hospital. Police were stationed outside the hospital to quell the unrest and stop it from escalating.
