Everything Is Watching When Caste Survey Starts In UP, Mayawati Says

The Patna High Court’s affirmation of the Bihar caste census as “perfectly valid” and “initiated with due competence” has caused BSP president Mayawati to claim that all eyes are now on the timing of the process’s start in Uttar Pradesh.

The Patna High Court on August 1 dismissed a number of petitions contesting the survey, which was ordered in 2022 and started earlier this year, giving the Bihar administration a boost. In a series of messages on the platform X, previously known as Twitter, Mayawati elaborated on the subject.

Everyone’s attention is now focused on when this crucial process will begin in Uttar Pradesh after the Patna High Court completely legalized the caste census being conducted by the Bihar government to make an accurate assessment of the economic, educational, and social condition of the OBC (Other Backward Classes) society and prepare a development plan in accordance.

She said in another tweet that “the demand for conducting a caste census in Uttar Pradesh is also gathering traction after being conducted in various states across the nation. But the current BJP administration doesn’t appear prepared for it. It’s quite concerning. The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), she said, wants the Center to carry out a nationwide caste census as well.

The execution of the Mandal Commission’s recommendations, as well as the caste census problem, are major social justice issues, according to the BSP president. By including them as participants in the nation’s growth, this evaluation is important to mainstream society’s exploited, weak, and disadvantaged members.

The Patna High Court bench’s ruling on the Bihar caste survey on August 1 said, “We find the state’s action to be perfectly valid, initiated with due competence, and with the legitimate aim of providing development with justice.” The Supreme Court heard an appeal of the high court ruling. The Bihar caste census was approved by the high court on Monday, and the hearing on petitions opposing it was postponed until August 14.
