Government gives Gautam Buddha University ₹50 cr for an AI center, while Galgotias receives an iOS lab

The Uttar Pradesh government has awarded ₹50 crore to Gautam Buddha University (GBU) in Greater Noida for the establishment of a center for artificial intelligence (AI) excellence, authorities said on Thursday.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath made the announcement on Tuesday during the groundbreaking ceremony in Lucknow.

“The AI hub’s setup has started.” “We hope to employ millions of young people in their communities and neighborhoods through this effort,” Adityanath said at the “Destination UP-Emerging Hub for AI in India” colloquium held at the Indira Gandhi Pratishthan.

According to authorities, GBU’s selection as the state’s AI center, together with IIM-Lucknow, represents a critical turning point in the university’s history of academic excellence and innovation.

Three Memorandums of Understanding were signed at the occasion about the development of the AI center between the government and Wadhwani Institute for Artificial Intelligence, Microsoft Corporation, and HCL Software.

“The UP government has earmarked a grant of ₹50 crore for the establishment of the AI Center on our campus,” said Prof. RK Sinha, vice-chancellor of GBU. These monies will be used to open the center and hire subject-matter specialists.

He said that the university already offers a BTech in AI.

We now rank among India’s top 10 institutions for academic AI use. We want to further lead innovation, spur scientific advances, and develop talent that will influence the future of AI with the opening of the AI center on campus,” Sinha said.

Launch of Galgotias University’s Apple iOS lab

On Wednesday, Apple, the IT giant, opened an iOS development studio at Galgotias University in Greater Noida.

“With its cutting-edge setup, which includes 100 iMacs, the iOS lab is well-positioned to act as a center for innovation and cooperation. The institution said that by giving students the chance to participate in experiential learning and the real-world application of iOS programming concepts, it equips them for success in the rapidly changing tech sector.

Greg Joswiak, a senior vice president at Apple, posted on the social networking platform X (previously Twitter), saying, “Today was the official launch of Galgotia University’s iOS Development Lab. I had a great time visiting with the next crop of iOS engineers and seeing the lab, which was furnished with a hundred iMacs.
