Greater Noida: Driver nods off while operating a speeding car, killing one

Greater Noida Accident: It is believed that the driver of the fast automobile fell asleep at the wheel, causing it to crash into a crowd of pedestrians on the Yamuna Motorway (YXP) in Greater Noida, killing one person and injuring two more.

The victims of the strange car accident on Sunday night were reportedly waiting for a bus on the Yamuna Motorway in Greater Noida, according to the police.

According to the police, the driver of the vehicle reportedly fell asleep at the wheel, causing the trio to be run over by a fast automobile. The driver was apprehended and charged.

When the event occurred in the Jewar region on Sunday evening, three individuals were waiting beside the YXP. The three were struck by a Maruti Swift registered in Delhi and taken to a local private hospital, where one of them passed away from injuries and the other two are receiving treatment, according to an official. Suresh Singh, a 37-year-old resident of Jahangirpur, Jewar, has been identified as dead.

According to the police, the accused driver, Raja Kumar, who works at a bank in Delhi, was taken into custody and charged with causing death by carelessness under Section 304A of the Indian Penal Code.

They said, “Kumar claimed during questioning that he fell asleep while driving on the Yamuna Motorway, which caused the accident.”

A local court granted the accused driver bail on Monday, according to an official.

Road accidents are a common occurrence in Gautam Buddh Nagar, which includes the cities of Noida and Greater Noida. There were 1,176 traffic accidents in the region in 2023, resulting in 470 fatalities and 858 injuries.

In 2022, the district reported 437 fatalities and 856 injuries, according to government statistics.

According to the police, the deceased, 60-year-old Ishaq Mohammad, was travelling to the hospital in Degana with a family member when he had a heart attack and passed out. As a result, he pressed the accelerator pedal while unconscious, causing the car to slam into the crowd at a high rate of speed.

According to what they were saying, the SUV was following the Jangid community’s Vishwakarma Jayanti parade at a leisurely pace.

A CCTV camera in the vicinity recorded the event, and the images went viral on social media.
