Man Wanted in Criminal Case Dies After Falling from House Roof in UP, 4 Cops Suspended

Officials said on Friday that four members of the Uttar Pradesh Police had been suspended for dereliction of duty after a man arrested for criminal intimidation fell to his death from a house’s roof while being apprehended.

He collapsed when one of his relatives hurled a brick at him, the deceased’s family said in a police report.

On August 28, Shehzad (40), in response to a complaint made by a lady, a FIR was filed at the Dhampur police station under sections 503 (criminal intimidation) and 341 (wrongful restraint). Since then, police teams have been attempting to make an arrest for him, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Neeraj Kumar Jadaun.

He said that a squad from the Bijnor Rural police station stormed a home on Thursday night to take the suspect into custody.

“Shehzad tried to flee after seeing the police team and fell from the roof of the house, resulting in his death,” Jadaun said.

“The officers are seen fleeing the scene after Shehzad collapses, according to a video of the event. To transport Shehzad to the hospital, nevertheless, was their responsibility, the SP added.

The following people have been suspended: Sub-Inspector Anil, Head Constable Manoj Kumar, Constables Ankit Rana and Vijay Tomar. Their actions showed disregard of duty. They are also the subject of a departmental investigation, he added.

According to Jadaun, police have also asked for a magisterial investigation into the situation.

Shehzad’s family reported the event to the police, claiming that Salman, one of their cousins, threw a brick at Shehzad, causing him to fall. According to the SP, a FIR has been filed based on the complaint.

According to authorities, the post-mortem examination of the deceased has been submitted.
