UP: A West Bengali man was arrested for participating in anti-national activities and aiding “infiltrators.”

According to the Uttar Pradesh Police on Monday, a citizen of West Bengal has been taken into custody for allegedly collecting Rs 58 crore from overseas non-governmental organizations and using money to support “infiltrators” and engage in anti-national activities.

It stated in a statement that the culprit has been identified as Abu Saleh Mandal (50), a resident of Bhikutiya in the North 24 Parganas area of West Bengal.

He was taken into custody on Sunday by the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) at Manak Nagar, close to the Alambagh Inter College, according to the police. According to the statement, the ATS had obtained information about a network that was helping “illegal infiltrators” settle in India using fictitious Indian credentials and encouraging anti-national acts by providing financial assistance.

The Umma Welfare Trust in the UK provided a sizable amount of funds, approximately Rs 58 crore, which were deposited in the FCRA accounts of Haroa-Al Jamia Tul Islamia Darul Uloom Madrasa and Kabir Bagh Millat Academy, which Mandal operated, according to the statement. This information was discovered during interrogation.

According to the report, Mandal used a portion of these monies to help Bangladeshis and Rohingyas in their illegal infiltration and financial support. In addition to creating fictitious Indian passports, the statement claimed that he was involved in anti-national actions and used Hawala to transfer money to several states.

It said that after the accused’s court appearance, preemptive legal action would be initiated. The statement said that Mandal, who attended the Madrasa Darul Uloom Deoband in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, has two Aadhar cards with distinct birth dates.

It said that two cell phones and more than Rs 1.16 lakh were taken after his detention and that a Rs 50,000 reward had been announced for information leading to his capture.

Following receipt of the information, the ATS filed a formal complaint, and before Mandal, six individuals from Bangladesh, Assam, and West Bengal had been taken into custody.
