An engineer from Bengaluru loses Rs 13.5 lakh to a fake recruiter

The rate of cybercrime is still on the increase. A Bengaluru-based software engineer lost Rs 13.5 lakh to a con artist masquerading as a recruiter in yet another online fraud. The victim was trying to get employment in the aviation industry. After waiting for the appointment letter for almost a month, the tech (43) realized that he had been duped. The techie had completed all the requirements that had been recommended to him by the con artists throughout the employment procedure.

Sacchidananda BS, an Anjanapura resident, allegedly sought for a position in the aviation industry with a business a month ago, according to the complaint. A call from an unidentified caller was received by Sacchidananda on August 16. A top aviation firm representative answered the phone and identified himself. According to The report, the caller claimed to be hiring for a senior position and promised Sacchidananda a salary of Rs 46 lakh annually.

The news story went on to explain that Sacchidananda was chosen after even being questioned online by the purported impostor. He described the situation in the complaint, saying that he was requested to provide documentation, including money. His employment offer letter wouldn’t be distributed until payment had been received. The con artist repeatedly demanded money from Sacchidananda under the guise of paying for medical fees and document verification.

The accused stopped all contact with Sacchidananda after the final total reached Rs 13.54 lakh. Before going to the police, the software engineer waited for the offer letter for almost a month. The accused is now on the run, and detectives from the cybercrime department are searching for him.

Another 30-year-old Bengaluru engineer lost Rs 2.6 lakh in a similar situation in August after he became acquainted with a lady he met on a dating app. He said that the pair would allegedly make video calls using WhatsApp. During several of these conversations, the lady made the male undress, which she then videotaped and used as blackmail against him.

A 29-year-old housewife from Andrahalli recently admitted to Cubbon Park police that she, too, had fallen victim to an internet fraud in February 2023. Through a messaging app, her spouse had made contact on her behalf and shared her contact information. This set off a series of events where a lady going by the name of Neeta Thakur offered her a desirable work-from-home career with a respectable wage. Business Today said that this ultimately proved out to be a hoax.
