UP Topper Prachi Nigam’s Heartbreaking Message to Trolls, “Wish I Didn’t Top”

Online jokes about Prachi Nigam’s facial hair put the high-achieving UP Board Class 10 topper—who scored an astounding 98.50 percent—in the public eye. Prachi grinned as she voiced her dissatisfaction at becoming more of a social media star for her appearance than for her exceptional academic record in an interview with BBC News Hindi.

“If I had scored just 1-2 points less, I wouldn’t have gained this social media popularity and wouldn’t have faced such trolling for my appearance,” she said, reflecting on the circumstances. The youngster sighed, speaking candidly about the frequent physical abuse she receives for her looks. “It hurts, but people on social media will say what they want, and there’s no stopping them,” she said.

Since then, she has received a lot of support on social media from those who are unable to comprehend the effect of the careless trolls who never hesitated to make fun of her beauty. One person shared a clip of her interview with the BBC and bemoaned that “we failed as a society for her.”

The most memorable day in her life is now a terrible memory, one commenter said in the flurry of comments on the widely shared article. Social media can be harsh and very poisonous. “Those who trolled her are the real losers, not society,” said a different reply. Our culture is full of losers who are willing to yell at any successful individual, especially if she happens to be a woman.

Another expressed sympathy, saying, “What a poor creature. Just think of the psychological damage she would have sustained. Positively, a fourth remark complimented her for standing up to trolls, stating, “It takes some next level courage to stand against this level of hate from the world.” She is just too powerful for this.

Prachi also discussed her goals, saying that she is totally committed to following her objectives and that she hopes to work as an engineer in the future.

Following the start of the trolling, Mamta Nigam, her mother, went out and offered her support: “I encouraged my daughter to ignore the trolls, and to my surprise, many social media users supported her after a few days.”

Chandra Prakash Nigam, the father of Prachi, expressed his family’s delight in their daughter’s accomplishment while also expressing their unhappiness with the trolling. In society, there are a wide variety of individuals. Naturally, we felt horrible, but we are also happy for our kid for receiving the best grades, he stated.

In addition, Mrs. Nigam said that she had intended to see a doctor for her daughter’s care, but the trolling occurred before they could do so. “The government will now be handling her treatment,” she said.

Even nonetheless, this episode serves as a sobering reminder of how little issues can quickly escalate into important online debates, all centered on a 16-year-old, even in spite of her family’s supportive reaction.
