BUSINESS

Among the things we saw at this year’s MWC 2024 were bendable phones and AI devices

As the most recent Mobile World Congress 2024 in Barcelona draws to an end, the second major tech event of the year is officially over. Numerous IT firms, like Lenovo, Motorola, and Samsung, among others, utilize the stage to present their newest goods and wow the public with eye-catching ideas.

The nicest thing about MWC is that it gives lesser-known firms a platform to introduce their goods and pique public interest. As is customary, MWC 2024 included a number of intriguing devices, some of which may never find a home in the marketplace.

ADAPTABLE SCREENS TO WIN?
Since foldable displays have been so popular in the last year, businesses are now focusing on flexible screens as the next big thing. Samsung and Motorola have shown their pliable phones that can be wrapped around your wrist. Although the technology behind these screens is probably more expensive than that of foldable panels, a market for these devices is anticipated in the coming years.

Samsung’s entry into this market implies that technology is here to stay, but we have doubts about these panels’ resilience to abrasion. In any case, it was entertaining to see people test out the phones with large screens; maybe they will be available soon.

AI in everything, everywhere
It came as no surprise that artificial intelligence was a major theme of this week’s MWC 2024 in Barcelona. Humane presented its AI Pin to the public and even mentioned intentions to introduce the gadget, which costs Rs 60,000, in India. As if that weren’t enough, we also witnessed a smartphone interface that utilizes AI, works entirely without apps, and has customized features that will probably be added to in the future. Qualcomm said that the new Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 chipset will ship later this year, demonstrating that the corporation was never going to ignore any AI-related news.

TRANSPARENT DEBUTS FOR PDP
Lenovo has shown its folding computers, but with its translucent laptop design, it has taken things a step further. This translates to a see-through design where the laptop’s bottom section functions as a tablet computer that may be used to take notes. The idea is strengthened by the bezel-less screen. However, Lenovo had no information on its debut or potential price, as was to be anticipated.

International Launches
This week at MWC 2024, Xiaomi launched its 14 series, which includes the Xiaomi 14 Ultra, for the worldwide market. Additionally, the Xiaomi electric vehicle was shown to us. Unexpectedly joining the range, Tecno demonstrated the brand’s aspirations by introducing a rollable phone screen idea and elevating the Camon portfolio to a premium level. Alongside the new Galaxy foldable, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy Ring, which will be available later this year.
