For Indian aviation, this is a historic moment, according to the CEO of IndiGo

Pieter Elbers, the CEO of IndiGo, said the airline’s decision to put a sizable order with Airbus for 500 aircraft is momentous for Indian aviation and positions it for the future.

On Monday, IndiGo, a no-frills airline that has been operating for more than 16 years, gave Airbus a definite order for 500 narrow-body aircraft.

This is the biggest single aircraft order ever made to Airbus by any airline.

The airline will be ready for the future thanks to the timely order. Soon after announcing the aircraft deal, Elbers said, “We are securing our future,” in an online briefing.

Elbers stated while speaking from Toulouse, France, that this is a historic occasion for Indian aviation and speaks to the future of India and IndiGo.

The IndiGo CEO stated there is a planning horizon for 10 years and the airline may work on the long-term goal of the Indian government without revealing the financial specifics of the contract.

He pointed out that there is still plenty of time to choose the precise combination of aircraft for the order.

Aircraft from the A320 NEO, A321 NEO, and A321 XLR are being bought by IndiGo.

Elbers said, “We still have a lot of time to evaluate all options and modalities” to a particular question concerning the financial planning for the most recent order.

According to Elbers, aviation is all about long-term planning, and India is now at the centre of global aviation.

At the moment, IndiGo runs more than 300 planes. It has 480 aircraft on order, all of which will be delivered between now and the end of this decade.

With this new definite order for 500 aircraft for the years 2030 to 2035, the airline claimed that it would have over 1,000 aircraft in its order book by the end of the next ten years.
