Horror of a Job Scam: Mumbai Woman Swindled Out of Rs. 17 Lakh by Online Job Offer Fraud, Details

A 33-year-old Navi Mumbai lady is said to have lost Rs 17 lakh after being seduced by online job scammers. On Monday, the lady went to the Navi Mumbai cyber police station and lodged a complaint.

An officer from the Cyber police station informed news agency PTI that two unnamed individuals approached the victim, who is from the Kamothe district of Navi Mumbai, through the Telegram app and offered her a job analyzing online content for a website in exchange for substantial rewards.

He said that between August 9 and August 14, 2023, the suspects reportedly stole Rs 17,00,629 from her in exchange for the employment promise.

When the victim requested reimbursement for her wages and the money she had handed to them after the assignment was completed, the individuals gave her evasive answers before eventually ceasing to be approachable, the official said.

Under sections 420 (cheating) and 34 (acts done by multiple people in furtherance of a similar aim) of the Indian Penal Code and the provisions of the Information Technology Act, the police have filed a FIR against two unnamed individuals.
