Was There Ever a Plan by Apple To Integrate Android Phones With The Apple Watch? It’s The Solution Here

Apple aimed to enable Android phone compatibility with the Apple Watch. Yes, the company’s well-known wearable may have been compatible with Android, but Apple ultimately opted against pursuing the idea.

In reality, according to a story published by Bloomberg last week, Apple may have abruptly terminated this support. With billions of cellphones, there would have been a whole new market for the corporation if Apple Watch had been available on Android.

Why, however, did Apple abandon its intentions to allow Android to be used with the Apple Watch? According to the article, Apple’s primary goal was to keep the Apple Watch exclusive to the Apple ecosystem and to make it a luxury accessory for iPhone owners. Not only that, but according to the article, Apple saw the Apple Watch as a tool to boost iPhone sales.

According to the information provided, Apple was nearly finished with Project Fennel, which would have provided linkages and support for Android phones. However, as is the case with many iconic Apple products, the company chose not to make the platform available to the most widely used mobile operating system.

The story doesn’t specify exactly when Apple came up with these ideas and decided to scrap them, but based on its overall theme, it is most likely four or five years ago. Although it would have ended the Android wristwatch business before it ever got started, it would have been entertaining to see the Apple Watch function with Android phones. If you had combined an Android phone priced at Rs 20,000 with an Apple Watch, the market dynamics would have undoubtedly altered.

Having said that, given Apple’s lack of control over Android compared to iOS, it’s possible that the company anticipated that situation and feared the user experience the Apple Watch would have provided. We are therefore left to speculate as to what Apple could have gained by allowing Apple Watch to function on devices other than iPhones, as history does not repeat itself. However, Google claims that its Pixel Watch series is now catching up to lost time, and we hope it does well if only to keep up the rivalry.
