Alejandro G. Inarritu’s Upcoming Warner Bros. Film Will Star Tom Cruise?

According to an exclusive report by Deadline, Warner Bros. and Legendary Entertainment are allegedly in discussions for a ground-breaking new film project directed by famed filmmaker Alejandro González Iñárritu, with Hollywood megastar Tom Cruise starring. With this partnership, Alejandro Iñárritu returns to the English-language film industry after his highly regarded work on The Revenant.

It is said that Iñárritu would produce and direct the unnamed movie. The screenplay was co-written in 2023 with Sabina Berman, Nicolas Giacobone, and Alexander Dinelaris—his award-winning film Birdman collaborators—reuniting after a ten-year break. Apart from his leading part, Cruise will also function as a producer, which is his first venture since he recently declared his strategic alliance with Warner Bros. Legendary Entertainment is anticipated to have a role in the production as well.

All information about the project is being withheld, and we only know that it is an original narrative written by Iñárritu. But according to the news site, there have been negotiations between filmmaker Alejandro Iñárritu and a few stars in recent weeks, with Tom Cruise being one of the first players to meet with the director. Tom Cruise, who is renowned for his discriminating casting decisions, supposedly expressed great interest in the movie upon discovering Iñárritu’s intentions for his next big-budget studio release.

This partnership is consistent with Cruise’s previous agreement with Warner Bros., which expressed his intention to collaborate on innovative, impactful films with well-known filmmakers. The movie also embodies the goals stated by Pam Abdy, Michael De Luca, and Steve Cruise of Warner Bros. Studios, who want to provide universally relatable cinematic experiences that are best seen on a large screen.

This project is Iñárritu’s comeback to big studio filmmaking after The Revenant, which brought him both economic success and his second straight Best Director Oscar. After taking a short break to concentrate on his passion project Bardo for Netflix, director Alejandro Iñárritu is ready to create another masterpiece of film.

Although Cruise has recently concentrated mostly on blockbuster blockbusters, he has a history of working with creative filmmakers such as Paul Thomas Anderson and Stanley Kubrick. With three nominations for acting and one for producing already under his belt, voters for the Academy will undoubtedly take notice of Cruise’s role in an Iñárritu picture when it opens in theaters.

CAA and Greenberg Glusker represent Tom Cruise, while Gang Tyre and CAA represent Iñárritu.
