Following “Game of Thrones,” Maisie Williams had an identity problem

Actress Maisie Williams, who became well-known at the age of 12 after landing the role of Arya Stark on “Game of Thrones,” said that growing up in the limelight as a part of such a well-liked fantasy series caused her to have an identity problem.

“I was very uncomfortable when I couldn’t identify what I felt my identity was because I was so lost for a long time, even though I knew that I was.” I feel so much more at ease in my own flesh now. I believe it’s over, so it’s difficult for me to even go back there and discuss how difficult it was,” Maisie said to The Sunday Times.

The 26-year-old actress said that she experienced severe depression while attempting to distance herself from her “Game of Thrones” persona. In fact, Maisie said that she was having trouble getting gigs, according to aceshowbiz.com.

“I think rejection at that point felt so personal, so painful,” the actress said. “It was at its absolute worst when I was also out of touch with myself—not knowing your identity and that kind of thing.” I would only make negative comparisons between myself and other actresses, as well as to other people’s appearances.

Relocating from London helped Maisie.

She said, “I’ve just mostly manufactured my life to make myself feel like I’m not famous at all.”
