How This ‘Flop’ Actor’s Career Was Revived by a Rs 60-Crore Film That Made Rs 370 Cr

Shahid Kapoor has been a part of Bollywood for more than 20 years. He has made a name for himself as one of this generation’s best actors. His filmography serves as evidence of his acting flexibility. Even yet, he hasn’t quite achieved the levels that one would anticipate of an actor of his caliber. Although Kabir Singh, the actor, made a strong comeback in 2019.

In 2003, Shahid Kapoor made his acting debut in the movie Ishk Vishk, which earned him the Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. The Sooraj Barjatya-helmed movie Vivaah from 2006 served as his first superhit. The movie, in which Shahid and Amrita Rao acted, was among the highest-grossing ones of the year.

His career has since taken an inconsistent route of poorly received and relatively well-received movies. In movies like Vishal Bhardwaj’s Indian interpretation of Shakespeare’s Hamlet, Haider, which came out in 2014, and Abhishek Chaubey’s Udta Punjab, which came out in 2016, he earned a lot of praise. Shahid’s career was at that point characterized by several media as a “flop actor.”

The actor has the highest commercial success as the lead in the 2019 film Kabir Singh. In the lead part, Shahid played a disturbed young guy in love who develops alcoholism. Kiara Advani, who portrayed Preeti, Kabir Singh’s love interest, was the movie’s female lead. The movie, a remake of Vanga’s own 2017 Telugu film Arjun Reddy, was helmed by Sandeep Reddy Vanga.

Kabir Singh, which cost 68 crore rupees to produce, earned nearly 370 crore rupees; this made it the third-highest-grossing movie of the year and the 26th-highest-grossing Indian movie ever. Critics applauded Shahid Kapoor’s performance despite the fact that the movie itself earned bad reviews for allegedly glamourizing sexism and toxic masculinity. The movie’s songs were tremendous successes.

Adil Hussain, Nikita Dutta, Arjan Bajwa, Suresh Oberoi, Dolly Minhas, and Kamini Kaushal all had minor roles in the movie. T-Series and Cine1 Studios produced it. Harshavardhan and Rameshwar wrote the movie’s soundtrack.
