In honor of Udhaar Ki Zindagi’s 29th anniversary, Kajol explains why the show was “a turning point” in both her life and profession

In honor of the 29th anniversary of her lesser-known movie Udhaar Ki Zindagi, Kajol has said that although not many people may be aware of it, the movie marked a turning point in her career. She said that at the age of 20, she was so exhausted that she decided to work on some movies where she wasn’t required to give it her best. Along with Jeetendra, Moushumi Chatterjee, Tinnu Anand, Ravi Kishan, and other actors, she also shared the movie’s poster.

Kajol’s Udhaar Ki Zindagi post

“Today marks 29 years of Udhaar ki Zindagi and no, it didn’t have any short forms for its name,” Kajol wrote in reference to the movie. Most people’s recollections of it sort of simply go by, but for me, it will always be remembered as a pivotal moment in both my life and career. I needed to make a change since I was exhausted and had poured too much of myself into my profession.”

“At the grand age of 20, I made an executive decision that I deserve a break and a better work pace,” the author said. I so proceeded to do just that. I learned how to pace myself better, worked on movies that didn’t need every fiber of my being, and—most importantly—filled my own bucket so that I could contribute more. I continue to practice the exact same thing now. Indeed, a post is needed on this day. And a prompt to myself and everyone else in this very hectic world. #paceyourself #youmattertoo #thereisalwaystime.

However, some people have pleasant memories of the movie.

However, not all of her admirers agreed with Kajol that they had forgotten about the movie. In response to Kajol’s tweet, filmmaker Siddharth P. Malhotra said, “Dadaji ki chadi hoon main, still remember the song from the film.” Malhotra directed Kajol in the 2010 film We Are Family. “This movie has not passed by in my memory and it was stayed with me as one of the best performances early on in your career,” a fan commented, including applauding emojis with their post. You were very incredible! “I still remember the song Gao gao gaate jao,” said another.

The director of Udhaar Ki Zindagi was V Raju. It included Anand-Milind’s music. It arrived shortly after Baazigar and Bekhudi, then Yeh Dillagi followed.

Kajol most recently starred in the anthology Lust Stories 2 and the online series The Trial. Her next projects include Sarzameen and Do Patti.
