Internet is shocked by Aishwarya Rai’s deepfake video
The worrying pattern continues because deepfake technology puts celebrities’ lives in serious danger. Fake films purporting to be of celebrities have been becoming popular on the internet lately.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan’s deepfake video is making the problem worse by becoming viral on social media. The video, which is circulating on Instagram, shows a lady in a swimming pool with Aishwarya’s face overlaid.
Artificial intelligence (AI)–powered deep learning software is used to make “deepfakes,” which are pictures or videos that purport to depict real individuals talking and acting in ways that they never would.
When a deepfake video of Rashmika Mandanna appeared on social media last month, it quickly became clear that technology was being misused in India. Online users said that the video had been altered and that the guy residing in the UK is really of Indian descent.
In a similar vein, phony videos featuring Kajol, Alia Bhat, and a few other people became popular.
A phony image of Bollywood star Kriti Sanon has also gained widespread popularity.
A picture purportedly of Kriti Sanon in her underwear has gone viral online. An image of a naked lady has taken Sanon’s place. She is the most recent star to find herself in this predicament as a result of several celebrities’ deepfake films becoming popular online.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who acknowledged the gravity of the issue, asked the media to educate the public and generate awareness about the abuse of artificial intelligence by stating that deepfakes might spark a major catastrophe and social unrest.
Deepfakes may create a major dilemma and perhaps fan the flames of unrest in a diverse country like ours since people tend to believe media outlets and treat those dressed in ‘gedua,’ or saffron, with reverence.
Artificial intelligence-generated deepfakes are giving rise to a new dilemma. “A significant portion of the population lacks a backup verification mechanism,” Prime Minister Modi said to reporters at a program last month.
Not only celebrities have been targeted, but also prominent figures like Ratan Tata and Narayana Murthy, the co-founder of Infosys.
