Jim Sheridan discusses Daniel Day-Lewis’ retirement and possible acting comeback

In June 2017, renowned actor Daniel Day-Lewis, who was praised for his remarkable Hollywood career, announced his retirement from acting. But his supporters, who had been hoping for a reappearance from him for years, were not pleased with the news. Daniel’s longtime director and partner, Jim Sheridan, recently offered his opinions on the actor’s retirement and the likelihood of a return.

Sheridan declared his wish to collaborate with the three-time Oscar winner once again. Sheridan helmed three of Daniel’s noteworthy films, including “My Left Foot,” “In the Name of the Father,” and “The Boxer.” Sheridan said in a recent interview with ScreenDaily that he is in communication with the actor and is really interested in collaborating with him, even if the artist claims he is finished.

Sheridan recognized the difficulties performers confront in the present digital era, despite his anticipation for a reunion. The proliferation of streaming options and the move of movies from public to private domains create significant challenges for both performers and directors.

Daniel Day-Lewis considered his decision to give up acting earlier, acknowledging that even he doesn’t entirely understand it. “I don’t fully understand it, but it came to me with a sense of conviction, and so I chose to move forward in acceptance of that rather than struggling with it,” the actor said during a screening for his last movie, “Phantom Thread,” Daniel said that he wanted to see the world in a new manner, even if he acknowledged that acting had been a haven for him when he was younger.
