Meg Donnelly and Milly Alcock go out for a legendary supergirl role in Atlanta

The casting of Kara Zor-El, a.k.a. Supergirl, is drawing nearer for James Gunn’s DC Universe (DCU), and rumors have it that Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly are leading candidates. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the actresses, who are recognized for their parts in Disney Channel’s Zombies series and House of the Dragon, respectively, had screen tests in Atlanta, USA. In addition to the production crew, DC Studios chiefs James Gunn and Peter Safran attended the auditions, which was a significant milestone in the casting process. Supergirl is anticipated to make her screen debut in Superman: Legacy before assuming the major role in Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, her stand-alone film.

On January 24, screen tests were held for the part of Supergirl. Alcock is well-known for her part in the prequel series of Game of Thrones, but Donnelly is no stranger to the DC character—she voiced Supergirl in the Justice League trilogy and Legion of Super Heroes before. According to rumors, the solo Supergirl film is still in the planning stage and is connected to Tom King’s 2021–2022 comic book series. Ana Nogueira, a well-known screenwriter from popular television programs including The Blacklist and The Vampire Diaries, is apparently joining the team as well.

It doesn’t seem likely that Sasha Calle will play Supergirl again in The Flash, despite previous speculation to the contrary. Though it seems the crew is leaning toward looking into other casting choices, despite her prior conversations with James Gunn. Prior tidings had said that Emilia Jones, the actress of CODA, and Cailee Spaeny, well known for her roles in Priscilla, were potential candidates for the part of Supergirl; nevertheless, it seems that Milly Alcock and Meg Donnelly are in the lead.

“In our series we see the difference between Superman, who was sent to Earth and raised by loving parents from the time he was an infant, versus Supergirl, who was raised on a rock, a chip off Krypton, and watched everyone around her die and be killed in terrible ways for the first 14 years of her life, then came to Earth when she was a young girl,” Gunn said earlier, while discussing the upcoming DC projects in January 2023. She’s not quite the Supergirl we’re accustomed to seeing; she’s much more tough.

As of right now, Superman: Legacy is slated for release on July 11, 2025. David Corenswet will play Clark Kent/Superman, Rachel Brosnahan will play Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult will play the legendary Lex Luther. Nevertheless, Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow’s release date has not yet been announced.
