Oscars 2024: Best Feature Documentary nominee For To Kill a Tiger

The documentary To Kill A Tiger, which tells the tale of a father’s quest for justice in rural India, was directed by Nisha Pahuja, a resident of Toronto who was born in New Delhi, has received an Oscar nomination. “To Kill a Tiger has been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Feature Documentary,” the documentary page announced in a statement. We are delighted that The Academy’s Documentary Branch has recognized this tale of justice and fortitude.”

“Gender equity and justice within India have been central to my work over the past ten years,” Nisha Pahuja had previously said to Variety. Because of the courage, integrity, and tenacity of the family at its center, “To Kill a Tiger” is a narrative that just had to be told.”
The 13-year-old girl’s father, Ranjit, a farmer in Bero, Jharkhand, requested justice in 2017 after the girl’s sexual assault. In the documentary “To Kill a Tiger,” Ranjit’s emotional journey is followed as the case is examined. According to the program’s summary, “To Kill a Tiger is a cinematic documentary that chronicles Ranjit’s difficult journey to get justice for his kid. In India, where conviction rates are under 30% and rapes are recorded every 20 minutes, Ranjit’s choice to provide for his daughter is almost unprecedented. We are able to see firsthand the emotional path of a regular guy confronting exceptional circumstances. A father whose devotion to his daughter makes society confront issues that will have long-term effects.”
To Kill A Tiger has Mindy Kaling and Dev Patel as executive producers. “This guy is the ultimate underdog – he is better than any character I have played,” Dev Patel said in an interview. He must work inside an oppressive system.”
