The mother of Priyanka Chopra ‘feels bad’ about boarding schooling her: “I cry every time I think about it.”

Recently, Madhu Chopra, Priyanka Chopra’s mother, shared details about her 1-year-old granddaughter, Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. Priyanka’s reaction to being a first-time mother was also discussed by Madhu in an interview with India Today. Speaking on one aspect of Priyanka’s upbringing that she would have changed, Madhu discussed how sending her to boarding school as a young kid was “not the best decision of her life.”

Madhu feels bad about putting Priyanka in boarding school.
Priyanka is “just an absolute superwoman,” Madhu Chopra stated when asked to characterize the star as a mother. She continued by expressing her regrets about Priyanka’s formative years, stating, “I wouldn’t have sent her to the boarding school.” When I think about it, I still weep, and I still feel bad. It was my responsibility to send her to a boarding school. Not the wisest choice I’ve ever made.”

Regarding being a grandmother
Madhu said of Priyanka, “She’s fearless and isn’t scared of anything,” in response to a question on how she is adjusting to being a first-time mother and her relationship with her granddaughter Malti Marie Chopra Jonas. She is allowing her child a great deal of freedom to be who she is. And I once advised her never to misinterpret the word “no.” Tell her, and she will comprehend. Saying no is not enough. That’s the only piece of advice I gave her. I have really forgotten that I am a parent and just enjoy holding Malta Marie Chopra Jonas in my arms.”

Priyanka discussing her time at boarding school
In 2021, Priyanka spoke about her time at La Martiniere Girls’ Private School in Lucknow with Elle, recalling how she felt abandoned by her parents there. Even though Priyanka’s parents sent her away to boarding school many years ago, the star said she was still dealing with the pain of the event.

I can still clearly recall the overwhelming sense of abandonment that persisted for a very long time. I was baffled as to why I had been thrown away. She’d remarked, “I also didn’t understand why (my mother) couldn’t visit as much.”

Priyanka Chopra had questioned at the time if her parents had made the choice because of her tantrums or because her mother wanted to spend more time with her younger brother Siddharth Chopra. “My mother didn’t give me an explanation for why she sent me to boarding school. Perhaps as a result of her own incomplete understanding of them,” she wrote in a passage from her book Unfinished that Elle at the time was able to get.
