Why Did Ali Sethi Compose and Sing the Well-Known Pakistani Song “Pasoori”?

The audience was deeply impacted by the song’s words and music, which displayed a fusion of several cultures and helped explain its international popularity. The fact that a movie recently used the song’s adaptation is another proof of its ongoing appeal.

On February 7, 2022, the song Pasoori was released. Shae Gill and Pakistani artist Ali Sethi are the singers. When it was first released, it became well-known right away, leaving its impact on listeners and immediately becoming viral online.

Fazal Abbas and Ali Sethi wrote the lyrics of Pasoori. In an interview, Ali said that the idea came to him while driving from Faizabad to Lahore when he saw the Punjabi saying “Aag lavaan teri maajobti nu” written on the back of a vehicle. The song Pasoori was inspired by these moving remarks.

Pasoori became widely used in Instagram reels and other films, and it quickly became well-known on social media. With more than 699 million views, it is clear how successful it is and how popular and influential it is.

Originating in Punjabi, the word Pasoori has two meanings in Hindi and Urdu: “hasty/eager” and “hesitating/difficult.” Pasoori is the sixth song from Coke Studio Pakistan’s 14th season, and it made its YouTube premiere on February 7. It was noteworthy because it became the first song from Coke Studio to be released in Pakistan and made it into Spotify’s “Viral 50 Global” list.

Over time, the song’s popularity grew, and in August 2022, it made history. In the 14 years that Coke Studio has been around, Pasoori is the only song to have over 300 million views. It exceeded 400 million by October, confirming its extraordinary success even further.

Pasoori now holds the record for being the song with the most views in Coke Studio history. The song strikes a deep chord with listeners because of its heartfelt melody and synthesis of several cultures. Notably, the song included an appearance by Pakistani social activist Sheema Kirmani. In addition, Kartik Aryan and Kiara Advani starred in Satya Prem Ki Katha, the remake of Pasoori.
