PAU hosts a camp to raise awareness about hypertension

In order to detect instances of undiagnosed hypertension, or high blood pressure, the Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) Diet Counselling Cell, in partnership with the Air Force Families Welfare Association (AFFWA), Halwara, organized a camp. The program was designed to educate women about nutrition and increase awareness of the significance of early identification and lifestyle control in preventing and managing health issues associated with hypertension.

The chairman of the Department of Food and Nutrition, Dr. Kiran Grover, has advised that high blood pressure raises the risk of renal failure, heart attack, stroke, and many other health issues. Maintaining excellent health requires knowing your blood pressure readings, she said. She went on to say that while hypertension is a major health problem, it can be prevented, managed, and treated with affordable therapies.

Experts from the department, Dr. Shruti Jain and Dayadeep Grewal, led an educational session that covered the causes, symptoms, and comprehension of data pertaining to hypertension and other health risk factors. In order to avoid and treat these lifestyle illnesses, the participants learned about healthy eating plans, stress management, and making educated food choices in addition to engaging in physical activity. Additionally, the camp assisted with a preliminary screening to find those who had hypertension.
