People with obesity may benefit more from evening exercise: study

Despite the long-held belief that mornings are the ideal times to exercise, new research published on Wednesday revealed that physical activity at night may be more advantageous to the health of obese people.

The results were based on wearable device data from 30,000 individuals who were tracked for almost eight years and were published in the journal Diabetes Care.

Researchers from the University of Sydney in Australia discovered that those who engaged in aerobic, moderate-to-intense physical activity—which elevates heart rate between 6 p.m. and midnight—had the lowest chance of dying young and dying from cardiovascular disease.

According to Dr. Angelo Sabag, an exercise physiology lecturer at the University of Sydney, “two in three Australians are overweight or obese due to several complex societal factors, which puts them at a much greater risk of major cardiovascular conditions like heart attacks and strokes and premature death.”

The research team focused on monitoring continuous aerobic activity in bouts lasting three minutes or more in addition to recording scheduled exercise.

They discovered that the frequency was more important than their regular exercise.

The scientists also noted that exercise in the evening may help counteract some of the intolerance and consequences linked to diabetes or obesity, which are known to increase glucose intolerance in the late evening. These findings are based on earlier studies.

“Exercise is by no means the only solution to the obesity crisis,” Sabag said.

However, she said, “People who can plan their activities for certain times of the day may best offset some of these health risks,” according to the research.

Exercise in the evenings may enhance sleep quality, which is important for both weight reduction and general health. This is due to the fact that exercise generates endorphins, which encourage relaxation and lessen the tension and worry that may keep fat people up at night. Additionally, working out in the evening helps lessen the desire for junk food, which makes maintaining a balanced diet simpler. All things considered, adding an evening exercise regimen may significantly transform the lives of obese people, resulting in better physical and emotional well-being.
